It’s a question of economics, practicality and time. Pipe replacement will probably cost significantly more than a repair but should be considered seriously if there has been a history of leaks. A repaired pipe can leak again whereas the new pipe should give you years of trouble-free water supply. Remember that if a leakage notice has been issued it will have a time limit on it. In the event of pipe replacement, the process of obtaining competitive quotes from contractors, appointing a contractor then scheduling the work may take longer than the notice period. If you do decide to replace your supply, keep the water supplier informed if you think you’ll take longer to get the work done than the notice period. They may make an allowance or ask that you do a temporary repair until the new supply goes in.
